Beshir Carpet – Central Asia – 19th Century

188×267 cm

Woven along the Amu Darya River in Turkministan so-called Beshir rugs were produced by the Ersari tribe. Myriad design types exist, the present carpet desplays a rendition from the Mina Khani repertoire. Although not particularly fine in weave, both warp and weft are of wool, the deeply saturated colors being vibrantly illuminated by the sumptuously soft and shiny woolen pile.
